wc_helmets There's a hopeful quality to the whole thing that I think even the artist misses. A personal work, and there is certainly gloom to it, but that's not you encounter first. It's almost as you could listen to it backwards and hear the artist climb into the light. We sink into the darkness too, but there's is such a hopeful quality to a lot of this music, and that's what really drew me in. I'm just a sucker for chimes, too. Favorite track: Follow.

about

I made this collection of songs right after I gave up…

This is the first record I made completely after leaving the last band I was in, Bloody Knives. I was feeling suicidal, and searching for something to help distract me. I had just pushed everyone around me away and been forced into therapy by my family. The therapist asked me if I “had a plan”, and something told me to lie to her and say no, to which she responded by explaining if I’d said yes she may have had to call the police and have me involuntarily committed. I was later told by this person that I was bipolar type 2 and that I should probably get rid of any guns I own then given medication that stripped me of any creativity until I stopped taking it. I was listening to a lot of Ok Panda during this period, and reached out to him in my loneliness. He graciously listened to my problems, and we’ve been working together ever since. Sinking is the first real fruits of our collaborations from my side, and is very much composed of pieces of him.

When I re listen to this record I’m struck by how deconstructed it can be sometimes. Almost like clockwork set into motion that I just follow along until it’s unwound conclusion. There’s a coldness to it, and it’s less “alive” than a lot of the things I’ve made, and I think it’s a result of my withdrawn lifestyle at the time.
